PDFLs subjected to mechanical loading release osteoclastogenic proteins like fibroblast growth factor, bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), transforming growth factor (TGF) or osteoclastogenic cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor, macrophage colony-stimulating factors & several interleukins into the local PDL microenvironment & mediate alveolar metabolism.
